Besides this, the jet division of Saab is separate one which is still owned by Swedes. So people are still confused whether GM and Saab are working together or they both have their own ways in the manufacturing of the vehicles. Car models of Saab: - Saab had been a leader in the production of the car models which are unique and serving the needs of the people. Recently the company had manufactured a concept car which is composed of the traditional doors. These doors are very much similar to the doors which are used in the fighter jets so that they can form a canopy. Whole car is made up of the light materials so that fuel economy can also be maintained. Besides this, company had also decided to use the ethanol instead of using the gasoline. The engine used in the models of Saab is V6 engine which is providing the 400 hp and is present in dual quantity in order to enhance the performance of the car. The production of these car models are increasing and people are more enthusiastic about the generation of the new version of cars. History of the Saab: - The starting of the company was in the year 1937 which was soon after the outbreak of II world war. During the initial stages the company was into the production of the jet air planes which were used in fights. After then, Saab entered into the production of the safe and innovative cars as manufactured by Volvo. We live in a world where the oil wells are drying up with a finality that indicates that we need to find alternate sources of fuel. Most of the cars running on the roads use gasoline to derive power. Most people remain in doubt about the nascent technology of running the car on water. The technology has been received with much skepticism among the automobile enthusiasts. So here is a list of few myths regarding this technology along with what it is in fact.
1. Water powered engines will damage the car: The fact remains that a car’s engine is more damaged by unburned fuel than anything else. The most important factor that one must keep in mind is that water is actually beneficial for the engine. This technology not only cleans up the carbon deposit caused by unburned gasoline but actively cleans out the engine every time you drive your car. The Saab Gt850 Sports Car - A Most Collectible Mid-60's Sportscar Auto

Before the strange Saab Sonett sports car reached full production in 1967, Saab's performance leader was the unconventional GT850 sports sedan. Powered by a three cylinder engine, triple carbureted two stroke engine, its mechanical specifications seem more like competition dirt bike than an automobile.
The GT850 called the "Saab Sport" in Europe made its entry debut into the American market as a 1963 model. It featured front disc brakes, an oil injection system that eliminated the need to pour 2 stroke oil into the fuel tank at every fill-up and a most mighty 841 cc engine that made 57 barrel horse power - fifteen more than the 96 on which the Saab GT750 was based. Saabs had always been front wheel drive cars, and the GT850 had a four speed manual gearbox box with a freewheeling feature that allowed it to coast down hill.
Intended primarily as a rally car rather than a family grocery-mobile, the GT850 featured VDO instruments, including a 120 miles per hour speedometer, along with a wood -rimmed steering wheel. A Halda Speed Pilot rally meter mounted in front of the passenger was a state-of- the -art options highly prized and valued among rallyists.
The two-stroke engine provided very little power below 3000 revolutions per minute (rpm) and its spark plugs were easily fouled. Prudent GT850 owners always carried one or more sets of new pregapped spark plugs, when they set out on a trip or long journey. When theGT850 "came on the pipe" as a two stroke motorcycle enthusiast would refer to it as, it would out-hustle and out-handle nearly all of its larger engined contemporaries including the Triumph TR3s and the MGAs. Its 50-80 miles per hour acceleration was especially strong and under ideal conditions a GT850 could top 100 miles per hour (mph). Not bad for a sporty car that cost only $ 2790 back in 1963.
Under the hood the GT850 is more than remarkable. In all pre-1965 Saabs, the radiator is mounted behind the engine, with the fan directly in front of it. The fan is turned by an overhead shaft that runs from the front of the engine, by the generator belt. Saabs got a longer nose in 1965, and the fan was moved to a conventional North American location. The hood which hinges forward for extra easy access to the engine could be removed in just minutes.
Saab enthusiasts credit the GT870's rally successes to front wheel drive, light weight, long spring travel and a simple but robust rear suspension with good anti-roll characteristics. The car had a tendency towards overseer and can easily be steered with the throttle. Flat out is the way the GT850 liked it.
It can be more than difficult for the vintage sports car enthusiast to find a GT850 in good condition. Many were used up and worn out, running hard over unpaved roads and mountain passes. If you are fortunate, indeed lucky enough, to find such a car - it is wise to check the exhaust system for restrictive build up of burned -oil deposits. It is an interesting footnote to this more than classic sports car that the very manufacturer of the car .Saab, recommended changing the rear muffler every 18,000 miles and the entire auto exhaust system every 36,000 miles.

It could be argued that I’ve never grown up, well mentally anyway ��" I’m far from being Peter Pan (I’m not ginger to start with), however when I was literally ‘growing up’ I wanted to be a fighter pilot. The thought of cruising the earth at warp speed seemed a delightful idea until one fateful day, when some dream shatterer proclaimed: “You’ll have to go to war you knowâ€. Suddenly this well crafted career choice from a six year old was shot down. Then developed the fear of flying, the poor eyesight and technophobia ��" not exactly Top Gun material (although I do feel the need, “The need for speed!â€) Now I’m older and mildly wiser than my six year old self, I can nip to my local Saab dealer and pick up a luxury 9-3 and have a fighter jet for the road ��" sort of. Speed is very nice indeed you see and Saab cars are a bi-product from the Swedish giant that started life building planes. With this in mind let’s take a wander down memory lane and talk all things 9-3. The original Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget (Swedish Aeroplane Company ��" must’ve picked up Swedish from my hours spent lost in Ikea) was established in 1937 with the remit of building planes for the Swedish Air Force. However, with World War Two drawing to a close, the company decided on the production of passenger cars to prolong it’s business. It’s very first car, the 92, so called as it was the 92nd design in Saab’s history was perhaps unsuprisingly the most aerodynamic car available ��" although it couldn’t take off. By 1970, Saab had built and Saab dealers had sold their 500,000 car. In the late 70s and throughout the 80s, Saab became renowed for turbocharging their cars to give customers the formidable cocktail of power and aerodynamic efficiency. As a result sales throughout the 80s were strong, until the competition caught on and Saab suddenly found themselves with more cars than they could sell and a heap of debt. In 1990, General Motors snapped up the company, initially with a 50% share with Swedish company Investor AB, before aquiring the entire business. With this steady footing, Saab made a profit in 1995 ��" its first since 1988 and with it’s new-found confidence and finances, the 9-3 was born. Replacing the outgoing and profit making 900 model, the 9-3 was launched in 1998 and can be found nestling either new or used at any Saab dealership. The car featured curvy lines and innovative features including the ‘Night Panel’ which only lit up crucial instruments on the dashboard at night to lessen distraction. Both the 9-3 and its big brother the 9-5 were the first cars in the world to achieve the maximum side impact safety score, based on NCAP testing. The first generation also featured the fighter jet for the road ��" the Viggen. Named after its namesake that actually is a plane and meaning ‘thunderbolt’, the Viggen was a madcap limited edition return to Saab’s glory days of turbocharging. Less than 3,000 were produced worldwide and critics complained of torque steer in low gears due to its uncontrolled power. In an effort to keep things on the black stuff, a special spoiler was fitted to add 50% more downforce and a revised bodykit reduced drag incredibly by a further 8% over the already slippery design. Enough statistics though, put simply, if like me you’ve ever wanted to be a fighter pilot but have a host of reasons why you can’t, a 230bhp Viggen will sort that. Just think when you’re next asked by the pretty lady in the office what you drive, you can say “I drive a thunderboltâ€. GM Reveals New Saab 9-3 Range

Maker of GMC carpet kit, General Motors built the new Saab 9-3 Range just like any other top products of the company.
The new Saab 9-3 range is physically identified with its all-new bodywork forward of the A-pillar, with new bumper moldings and light assemblies in the front and rear. Its new doors and handles for the Sport Sedan and SportCombi are also particularly distinguishing. Across the range, the flared side sill extensions are now standard. All these details blend to give the car a definite identity as well as a more stunning look. For the Sport Sedan, 70 percent of the external body panels and parts are all-new. In a liberal and modern way of expressing the brand's distinctive character, the styling blends contemporary and classic Saab design themes.
Almost the entire exterior of the new Saab is similar to the Aero X concept car. The new Saab grille is matched with all-new headlamp lenses and light units that now have a thin 'eyebrow' lighting zone. In an upswept rear edge, the wraparound units top off. A central wing motif is vividly seen in its grille. This car has a 'clamshell' hood that closes across the top of the front wings. The hood pressing has a sweeping, U-shaped styling line as first seen on the Aero X. The other similar Aero X themes are the swept-back frontal lines with front bumper and splitter assembly with a deep, trapezoidal air intake.
The rear of the Sport Sedan and Convertible now feature smoked white light clusters. The Saab has new bumper moldings that are much deeper with curved, flat surfaces. To accommodate new matte chrome life handle trim with an integrated badge, the trunk lids of the Sport Sedan and Convertible are also substituted with the one similar with the SportCombi. All the external rubbing strips from bumpers and doors (color-keyed on the Convertible) are removed and new door panels now has a simple form with redesigned and color-keyed handles. The visually integrated front and rear with the scalloped corners of the new bumper moldings are sill extensions.
Other exterior refinements include the new flat wiper blades to reduce wind noise, and new alloy wheels, with an 18-inch design now offered as an option on all variants aside from the 1.8i models. Two new colors are added to the range. This includes a Snow Silver metallic paint finish which resembles that of the Aero X.
For a sporty driver focus, the Saab XWD offers greater driver involvement. The new Saab 9-3 Range is comprised by an active system for class-leading performance of up to 100 percent rear torque transfer, high end technology that include pre-emptive engagement and active rear LSD, and new rear sub-frame and suspension geometry.
Other reinventions for driving include Sport Mode standard for automatic transmissions and optional cornering bi-xenon headlights.
The class-leading two-stage diesel turbo engine plus the extension of Saab BioPower are the in charge for the car's performance. It is further boosted by the increased power for 2.8V6 turbo in combination with Saab XWD.
As to the power train, the 9-3 range comes with a new 1.9 TTiD engine. The 9-3 range features a powerful new four cylinder diesel engine with a one-of-a-kind two-stage turbo charging system, a world's first in the premium car segment, giving class-leading levels of efficiency.
That does not end the improvements and added things to the new Saab. Another new features are the 2.0t BioPower and the improved 2.8V6 Turbo. The Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) and the Bose Centerpoint Surround Sound audio are among the other improvements for the car.
Interior designs and features include the cockpit feel and driver-focused themes of the Sport Sedan and SportCombi. The rear passenger area incorporates an 'f'ixed-head' interior ambience. It is the first convertible to offer soft-top with light colored headlining. One unique feature is the 'hydroblox' water repellent textile for seat upholstery. Other interior features include 'Profiler' customization, ComSense functionality through 'dynamic workload management', 'light room' or 'dark room' interior themes, dual zone air conditioning, infotainment systems that include DVD/GPS satellite navigation with large 6.5-inch color monitor, Bluetooth™ Phone Integration system (BPIS), and fordable wind deflector.
On the chassis, the 9-3 Convertible possesses an 'ReAxs' passive rear wheel steer characteristic, four-link independent rear suspension, front suspension by MacPherson struts with lower A-arms mounted on a hydroformed (hollow) sub-frame, low mounted steering, Mechanical Brake Assist (MBA), advanced chassis electronic systems, and a minimized unsprung weight.
As to the safety, the car has undergone crash testing based on 'real life' research as well as a broad range of crash test configurations. Its safety features include 'DynaCage' rollover protection, front seat-belts that are fully integrated mounted entirely to frame of seat, Saab Active Head Restraints (SAHR), and adoptive front airbags as well as two-stage side airbags.
